The process begins by the artist sketching the design on the glass blank with a grease pencil. Once the design is sketched out on the piece, the engraving begins.
The design is hand engraved onto the glass using various diamond points, cutting wheels and carbide stone tips to achieve various depths and shading.
Each piece is individually designed and crafted by the artist. Commissioned pieces can be done from a photograph and by working with the artist to create designs.
Unlike sandblasting with templates, or computer generated and chemical/abrasive glass etching, these are true works of art with no two pieces alike. It is much like painting, only instead of using paintbrushes and color on canvas, the artist creates a picture on the glass using the cutting and engraving tools.
About the Artist
Diane studied art at Kent State University and began using the pen and ink drawing method. She began practicing the art of glass engraving in 1999. Since then, she has created beautiful pieces carved in glass for many clients as well as creating her own designs.
She will create custom portraits from your photographs. Her portfolio includes pets, wildlife, boats, cars, RV’s, scenery and more. All the pieces pictured in the gallery have been sold to private collectors.
Diane is available for commissioned work at any time. The time required to complete a piece depends on the complexity of the design. She will create a piece from a photograph you provide, or she will work with you to create a one of a kind design of your specifications.
